How To Stay Motivated To Achieve Your Goals

octobre 16th, 2009 by viktor

With so many distractions in our midst, with so many excuses and reasons to quit, how do you stay motivated to achieve your goals?
Staying motivated will help ensure your success in life; it will help ensure that you accomplish your goal of improving yourself.
It is important to remember that all work and no play is not the way to live one’s life.
Balance is the key to anything.
When one focuses too much on one avenue in life, all can go to the wayside in another part of one’s life.
The imbalance can cause one to feel pressure and stressed, feeling as though giving up would help more than persevering.
This is why finding ways to avoid this and stay motivated is imperative.
Give yourself rewards.
Take the time to reward yourself for your hard work and achievements.
If no one else is there to do it for you, be your best fan, your biggest supporter and your best friend.
Reward yourself with things that will refresh your spirits and keep your positive energy high.
More helpful techniques.
In addition to a reward system there are many other techniques that can help you in your efforts to stay motivated.
Let your imagination go.
Think of the things that you say and do all day long to motivate yourself to go to work, to clean your home, to do just about anything.
You already have the motivating skill inside of you; it pushed you to read this article!
You just need to exercise this skill, practice it until you no longer have to think about it.
In addition some ideas that can help you motivate yourself follow:
Remind yourself of the final reward.
Motivate others! When you do this, it reinforces the skill to motivate yourself! Praise yourself.
It is not easy to take on big risks, this in and of itself is praiseworthy!
It is a brave, brave move that some people wish they could do, live their whole life but never do so out of fear.

Do You Know How To Deal With Stress?

octobre 16th, 2009 by viktor

Somebody once said, “Stress is what happens when your mind thinks one thing and your mouth thinks another”. It is so easy to get into stressful situations just by trying to please people and agreeing to do those things that we don’t really want to do.
Too many of us spend our lives dealing with awkward situations and problems, both at home and at work. This leads to too much stress and can sometimes drive one literally over the edge. But before we deal with stress we have to realize that we need a certain amount of stress in our lives in order to function properly.
So the ‘trick’ is to find a balance between too much stress and too little. You have to realize that a certain amount of stress is good and that we use it to push ourselves and enhance our performance or productivity at exactly the right moment.
It is important to have the right frame of mind when dealing with stress and try and keep away from people who are ‘over stressed’, it can be infectious. When the world is going mad there are always those who keep their head. Mix with these people and find out how they are in control all the time.
Sometimes it is our own self confidence, or lack of, that causes us anxiety and a good way to combat this is by practicing a few deep breathes. This is something I learned long ago when first starting out on my sales career. Just before I was due to meet a client I would find a quiet corner and breath in for a count of seven and then, slowly, breath out for a count of eleven. Just doing this a few times would lower my racing heartbeat and put me in a more relaxed and confident state.
Another little trick you can use to lower your stress levels and be in control of your life is to control your thoughts. What do I mean by this? Well, most of us are stressed because we are thinking stressful thoughts all the time. So it’s simple, change your thoughts and think something else.
It really is that simple, it’s not easy to do at first, but every time you think bad or stressful thoughts turn them around and think good positive thoughts. You will be amazed at how this simple technique can lower your anxiety levels and improve the quality of your life.
I hope you found these tips for dealing with stress useful and don’t forget if all else fails two or three weeks in the sunshine will work wonders.

Wondrous Words About You

septembre 19th, 2009 by viktor

So you finally did it! You signed up for an online service to start dating. Now you are sitting in front of your computer trying to figure out what to write in your profile that will attract others. Here are five tips for writing a killer online dating profile.
The first tip on profile writing for online dating has to do with length. You generally want to write no more than 250 words, most of which will be about you and some of which (no more than 100 words) will be about the person you are seeking. On some online dating sites your profile will only be about you, as there is also a separate location to include information about your ideal mate. If this is the case, then you would still write 200-250 words about yourself in your profile.
The second tip about writing a killer online dating profile is to pretend that you are meeting someone in person for the first time. The meeting is casual. You might be at a party given by a friend, at a coffee shop, or a bar. Think about what you would say to that person who stands next to you and asks, “Tell me about yourself.” That’s the same thing, then, that belongs in your online dating profile.
The third tip is about the style of your online dating profile. To make it a killer profile you want to mix fact with personality. Tell other singles the factual things about yourself such as your age and body type, your race, marital status and perhaps the type of job you do but don’t just put that out there as a string of facts. Intersperse this information with some humor and personality.
It should be fun to read, it should make the others who see your killer online dating profile to want to know more about you, and it should be well written. Unless you are especially embarrassed about anyone knowing you are dating online, have a close friend whose communication skills you trust read your profile before you put it live on the Web. Make sure it is grammatically correct, and has no spelling errors. There are those who, no matter how interesting your online profile, will discount it as a killer profile because you are not writing well or because your words are misspelled. Many people incorrectly assume that bad spelling correlates with low intellect.
The next of the five tips for writing a killer online dating profile has to do with the content. Your profile should include information about your career and your education. You not only want to say what you do for a living now (carefully, so as not to give away your actual employer) but how you came to move into this position. Talk about your progression in your career, and the training you had to rise in your profession or trade. If your highest education is high school indicating such is not generally seen as positive, however. That is an assumed and best left out. Talk about your children, if you have any, and the places you have been and lived.
The last of the five tips for writing a killer online dating profile has to do with clarifying the type of person you are seeking. Be wary of absolutes and superlatives. I am looking for a non-smoker is a good thing to note, but only if, for instance, you would never consider dating someone who is trying to quit. If you describe your ideal mate make sure it’s clear that it is someone you can strive for, not expecting to turn aside someone who fits most of the bill.
These, then, are the five most important tips for writing a killer online dating profile.

How to Start a Conversation in Unusual Circumstances

septembre 4th, 2009 by viktor

Starting a conversation can sometimes seem difficult. Certain circumstances can make this process even more difficult. Knowing how to start a conversation in a variety of tricky circumstances will help you become more confident in your abilities to communicate effectively.
Circumstances can range from co-workers to complete strangers. Learning the best ways to start a conversation with many different people will allow you to become a master of communication.
1. Coworker - When starting a conversation with a co-worker you know you have at least one topic that you can both relate to: work.
You can make a casual comment about work related details to strike up a conversation. Be sure to avoid making negative comments or talking about things like salary and management because these topics could actually cause you problems.
You should also be somewhat aware of what exactly this co-worker does in the company because you do not want to start a conversation about something he or she knows nothing about.
You could try opening with a question about how long they have been with the company or what area of the company they work in if you are not sure.
2. Acquaintance - An acquaintance is someone you know, but not too intimately. This may be someone you had attended high school with but who was not one of your close friends or perhaps someone you go to church with.
However you know this person you are not familiar enough to ask personal questions. You should start a conversation about something you have in common or about something you know about the person.
Good topics to start with are asking about children or a recent operation. Think about something that isn’t too invasive, but shows you are truly interested in this person.
3. A date - When dating there are added frustrations and concerns. You are hoping to come off as someone your date would like to pursue a relationship with and you want to really make a good impression by offering interesting conversation.
The trick here is really knowing what to avoid. You really need to avoid highly debated topics like religion and politics. You should also keep the conversation light and considerate, so avoiding topics like sex and money is a good idea.
Knowing how to start a conversation by making an observation about your date or about something around you is a good tip. For example, comment on her unique necklace or how quickly the waiter took your drink order after you arrived.
4. A stranger - Most of the time when you strike up a conversation with a complete stranger you have a topic already in mind.
For example, if you are waiting in a long line, you may comment to someone standing behind you about how long it is taking. Usually though this is a short comment and can sometimes leave you feeling as if you should say more.
Take a cue from the other person. If they answer you with a complete answer and genuinely look as if they care about what you have said then you may want to strike up a more in depth conversation.
You can let them know you name and why you are where you are. Just avoid sharing too much information and if the person answers you with a smile or a quick, short answer then they are probably not interested in talking with you and you should move on.
These are just four situations that explain how to handle an awkward beginning to a conversation. Most of the ideas, however, are great to apply to other conversations.
The biggest advice about how to start a conversation is to look for clues from the other person that show they are interested and do want to continue talking to you.

Conquer the Giant Procrastination Towering Over Your Book Dream

août 31st, 2009 by viktor

Have you been guilty of procrastinating on your book project, lately? Like the author, many writers get hung up with wrong thinking about writing and completing their books. They feel like a loser because they have stopped and started countless of times over the years. They fail to realize you actually become a winner the minute you start moving toward your worthwhile goal.
Instead they continue procrastinating until they give up. A client confessed she thought writing a book was too hard. Knowledge and know-how can be formed into a weapon that will destroy the power of procrastination. Using the 7 weapons below writers can conquer the giant procrastination and finally realize their book dream.
Weapon #1 Do it Now!
Now is better than later. Remember you become a successful author the minute you start moving toward your worthwhile book goal. I don’t know anyone that regrets they wrote a book. But the author has met plenty of people that regret they didn’t do it sooner.
Weapon #2 Invest time in designing your passion points “top marketing spots” beforehand!
Spend time on developing the passion points designed to sell more before your book is even completed The passion points are the title, cover, thesis, audience, benefits & features, mini sales letter written as introduction and back cover copy of each book. For example, at least half of the book’s success will be on the title you choose.
Weapon #3 Know you don’t have to be a degreed expert, great writer or do loads of research.
Write books you are interested in and want to learn more about. As you look for information, talk to experts and write, you become the expert. Find out what questions your readers will want answered.
Organize them into categories which become your table of contents and eventually your chapters. Remember there are interested readers who are waiting for your helpful information.
Weapon #4 Realize your message is significant and deserves your attention, love and time.
Consider what your readers need and want. If your book shares something unique, encouraging, useful, entertaining, it is important enough to be written. Think about your gift? God gave you your gift to share with others. Our gift back to God is what we do with it. The loving care you put into your gift (book) the more rewards await you.
Weapon #5 Recognize your book will sell with your marketing efforts
It’s true not everyone will want to buy your book. Yet there are plenty of your targeted audiences that will want your entertaining or helpful information. The world awaits your self-help, how-tos, business, or poetry book.
When you take the time to touch their emotions with something that benefits them, they will pull out their credit card or cash and pay the price. Top selling non-fiction topics are self- help, mysteries, parent/children, sex and romance. Remember women buy 78% of all trade books.
Weapon #6 Realize the journey doesn’t have to be long or difficult.
Invite your friends and family to brainstorm with you as peer editors. Ask for their feedback on the thesis, title and chapters - one at a time. Don’t become isolated in your thinking. Opening your writing process up to others will give you a better feel for what your readers may want.
Enroll in a writing and/or publishing class to elevate your thinking. Join a critique group to get feedback. Subscribe to newsletters and read articles on book writing to get tips that will help you on your journey to a successful book.
Weapon #7 Acknowledge publishing has changed and doesn’t have to be too expensive, too long and too difficult anymore.
Technology has advanced the publishing process into new realms. Traditional publishing has normally taken one to two years. With e-Book and Print on Demand (POD) printing technologies, an author can see their quality looking book in print within a few months or less.
Remember if you get to some parts of the project that’s beyond your skill or know-how consider coaching and other professional services that will carry you over anything blocking you from writing, completing and publishing your successful book.
If you have been succumbing to procrastination, take a different strategy use the perspective and 7 weapons above to overcome any giant called procrastination keeping you from fulfilling your book dream.

Teaching Values to your Kids

août 31st, 2009 by viktor

Values are ideals that guide or qualify your personal conduct, interaction with others, and involvement in your career. They help you to distinguish what is right from wrong.
It stands to reason then, that teaching values to your children is an important part of being a parent. Values make our society safe and workable, and instilling them in our kids is the most significant and effective thing we can do for their happiness. Studies show that morality and value-oriented behaviour helps a child develop a sense of autonomy, independence, and confidence.
Values can be classified into four categories:
- Personal
- Cultural
- Social
- Work
Personal Values are principles that define you as an individual, and determine how you will face the world and relate with people. Personal Values include honesty, reliability and trust.
Cultural Values help you feel connected to a larger community of people with similar backgrounds. Cultural values include the practice of your faith and customs. They are the principles that maintain your connection with your cultural roots.
Social Values are principles that indicate how you relate meaningfully to others in social situations, including those involving family, friends and co-workers.
Work Values are principles that guide your behaviour, projects and contexts. They define how you work and how you relate to your co-workers, bosses, and clients. They also reveal your potential for advancement.
The four categories consist of 12 Universal Values:
- Honesty
- Courage
- Peaceability
- Self-reliance and Potential
- Self-Discipline and Moderation
- Fidelity and Chastity
- Loyalty and Fidelity
- Respect
- Love
- Unselfishness and Sensitivity
- Kindness and Friendliness
- Justice and Mercy
1. Honesty - with other individuals, with institutions, with society, and with oneself.
2. Courage - daring to attempt difficult things. The strength not to follow the crowd, and to say no and mean it.
3. Peaceability - understanding that differences are seldom resolved through conflict, and meanness in others is an indication of their problem or insecurity. Controlling your temper.
4. Self-Reliance and Potential - awareness and development of your gifts and uniqueness. Taking responsibility for your own actions. Overcoming the tendency to blame other for difficulties. Commitment to personal excellence.
5. Self-Discipline and Moderation - physical, mental, & financial self-discipline. Moderation in speaking & in eating. Understanding the limits of body and mind. The ability to balance self-discipline with spontaneity.
6. Fidelity and Chastity - teach your kids the value and security of fidelity. Give them a grasp of the long-range and widespread consequences that can result from sexual immorality and infidelity. This is an instruction, rather than a definition.
7. Loyalty and Dependability - loyalty to family and other organizations and institutions to which commitments are made. Reliability and consistency in doing what you say you will do.
8. Respect - for life, property, parents, elders, nature. Respect for the beliefs and rights of others. Self-respect and the avoidance of self-criticism.
9. Love - for friends, neighbors, family, even adversaries. Individual and personal caring that goes beyond loyalty and respect.
10. Unselfishness and Sensitivity - becoming more extra-centered and less self-centered. Sensitivity to the needs of others and of situations. Empathy, tolerance, brotherhood.
11. Kindness and Friendliness - awareness that being kind and considerate is more admirable than being tough or strong. The tendency to understand rather than confront. The ability to make and keep friends. Helpfulness. Cheerfulness.
12. Justice and Mercy - An understanding of natural consequences. Obedience to the law, fairness in work and play.
Values should be taught to children of all ages with differing agendas and changing emphasis as they mature. Values are best taught in the home, since parents are the best exemplars and instructors. Parents should consciously develop their own set of family values, and consciously teach these to their children - leading by example and also taking the time to explain.
Children may develop values different from those you tried to teach them. However, they will do so with a solid foundation, and with a basis of comparison

When mortgage refinancing you should always shop around and speak to more than one lender. One way to get a better deal which will allow you to pay less each month is to tell the loans officer that you are shopping around for the lowest rate or best deal because you want to reduce your monthly payment. This openness at the start will let them know they need to give you their best offer to get your custom. This should result in you getting a great deal and slash you monthly costs.
Mortgage refinancing does cost money in the short term. It may cost as much as a few thousand dollars. Borrowers should expect to have to pay closing costs. Mortgage refinancing has the result of the existing loan being closed and a new loan being opened. Closing costs are therefore inevitable. Additionally, mortgage refinancing requires the same procure to be followed as was followed when the mortgage was taken out. Pre-Existing Conditions And How They Can Affect Your Individual Health Insurance

août 30th, 2009 by viktor

There are nearly four million Texans with some type of “pre-existing medical condition.” Besides having difficulty obtaining health insurance, these Texans may experience other insurance-related problems, including claim denials, higher premiums, cancellations, or refusals to renew their policies.
Before issuing a policy, health insurance companies offering individual policies evaluate certain information about you to determine how likely you are to have a claim. This is called “underwriting.” For any health policy, a company might consider your age, occupation, current health status and your medical history. If your individual risk factors indicate you are likely to have a claim, the company may charge you more for your policy or refuse to cover you.
Most individual health insurance companies have clauses regarding pre-existing conditions. Limits on pre-existing conditions are a standard part of most health plans. These limits ensure that benefits are paid only for conditions that occur after your health coverage becomes effective. Paying only for approved services and covered conditions helps control healthcare costs and prevent possible insurance abuse.
If you are seeking an individual health insurance policy and you have a current or past health problem, you must disclose it on your insurance application. Failure to disclose pre-existing conditions could jeopardize future claims or invalidate the policy. Individual health insurance companies may completely exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions by attaching an “exclusion rider” to your policy.
If you list pre-existing conditions on your application and the company issues you coverage without attaching an exclusion rider, the company must begin covering your pre-existing conditions when the policy’s pre-existing waiting period expires. Pre-existing condition waiting periods can be a maximum of two years on individual policies. Exclusion riders can be in-force indefinitely.
In Texas, if you move from a group, government, or church health plan to an individual health policy, you won’t be subject to a new pre-existing condition waiting period if you had 18 months of prior coverage, with no more than 63 days lapse in coverage. If you move from a group, government, or church health plan to an individual policy with less than 18 months of coverage or have a lapse in coverage greater than 63 days, you will receive credit on the new policy’s pre-existing condition waiting period for the time you were covered during the preceding 18 months.
When it comes to applying for an individual health insurance policy, be forthcoming and honestly answer all questions about your medical condition. If you withhold information about an illness or medication, the health insurance company you’re applying to may deny subsequent claims.
In addition, understand your individual health insurance policy and read the policy wording carefully. Make sure you understand the limitations and exclusions of your coverage. And ask questions, especially if you don’t understand the policy wording, or are unsure about specifics of your coverage. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification about policy details. If you do not understand some or all of your policy, call your health insurance company and ask for an explanation. And try to get your answers in writing.

Are Free Federal Grants Really Free?

août 30th, 2009 by viktor

Contrary to what a lot people are being made to believe, the U.S. government is not giving away “free federal grants”. A grant, as defined by Jay M. Shafritz in his book “American Government and Politics”, is a gift that entails certain obligations on the part of the grantee and expectations on the part of the grantor.
The operative word to remember in getting grants from the federal government is “obligations”. Along with every grant you receive come these obligations and the various responsibilities to fulfill the demands dictated by each program.
Grants from the government are awarded to organizations that have major projects that are deemed to benefit the community. An example would be: a neighborhood street paving project; a state-wide program to re-train displaced workers; a regional water conservation program; a shelter facility for the homeless; researching a cure for a disease; etc.
In addition, organizations that receive free federal funds must adhere to strict oversight performance standards. Detailed accounting and auditing of these project expenditures is required. Auditing of grant project expenditures is done at least once a year.
Free federal grant funds must be spent to the last cent. Any money left must goes back to the Treasury. Program goals in the grant application must be carried out exactly as specified. Any project changes must go through the government and meet its approval. Project phases must be completed by the deadlines and the project must be completed successfully.
Failure to comply with the federal requirements on the part of the grantee will result in penalties. Penalties grant non-compliance could range from economic sanctions to prison if improper use or theft of public free funds is proven.
Most federal grant beneficiaries are federal agencies, states, cities, colleges, universities and research organizations. Applying for these funds takes some expertise in preparing the applications which is why individuals do not usually qualify for them. As a matter of fact, those who actively seek grants employ staffs just to facilitate the application for and administer the grants.
The truth behind grants from the government is that with federal funding cutbacks and intense competition to obtain them, seeking these free funds can take a lot of time and money with no guarantee of successfully obtaining them.
Since grants require a lot of legwork for the applicants and obligate the grantee(s) to fulfill some responsibilities, we can see that free federal grants come with a price tag too.
